Denise and Rick Cunningham

Like many boomers we're planning the "next chapter". We live a fairly chaotic life in Georgetown in Washington DC. I'm a former fashion executive and journalist. Rick's an engineer and computer scientist. We're about ready for a little change of pace. Travel... perhaps moving to warmer climes ...and definitely savoring more moments. We never set out to buy an RV...matter of fact, we had never even been in one and I definitely don't camp. But, now, with more time and a growing aversion to the insults of air travel, we bought a 40' motor coach. Our grandson, Ian, named it Gigantor. We call it Tor for short.

We're seeing things you just can't from the air and finding that we've so much to discover on this continent. In the past two years, we've taken three marvelous six-week trips. This time, we're "chasing the sun for as long as it fun". We left on October 5, 2009. We'll see how long we last!

We're searching for great places to stay, sights worth seeing, golf courses worth playing, great restaurants, shopping, farmer's markets. We're on the road in search of the high road.

Arriving at The Bay of Fundy

We leave St. Andrews for the Bay of Fundy arriving close to high tide. The view as we crest the hill into Fundy National Park is spectacular. The RV sites at the park are not as nice as the ones we encountered last year in the Canadian National Parks in Banff and Lake Louise. There is no view from the site, but we are not a bad walk or bike ride from Alma where the spectacular 45 foot tides happen.

On the way to Fundy, we go through St. John, New Brunswick and stop at the visitor's center to inquire where there is a cell phone store. We have been trying, unsuccessfully, to buy an international chip for my phone since we arrived in Canada. We were able to get the international roaming internet before we left home, but were told we could by the phone chip anywhere...so not true!

We go to three stores, including the one that runs the major wireless network here. No one sells them or has heard of them. We give up on trying get the chip and will just have to pay the $1 a minute charge, but will use more sparingly than last year when we got hit with a ginormous bill when we got home. Hasn't mattered much anyway, because we have had few and far between connections....explaining why I haven't called home or posted the blog for a while...been writing but can't get it published.

But the best thing we found out at the visitor's center was information on the City Market...a permanent produce, meat and fish market. I stock up big time. St. John appears to be a pretty gritty town, but the Market is terrific and the meat and fish are particularly well priced. We cook salmon on a cedar plank, accompany it with grilled asparagus and couscous and eat outside which is such a treat. Temperatures have been around 70 degrees...what a pleasant change from the 95+ we "enjoy" in DC!
