Denise and Rick Cunningham

Like many boomers we're planning the "next chapter". We live a fairly chaotic life in Georgetown in Washington DC. I'm a former fashion executive and journalist. Rick's an engineer and computer scientist. We're about ready for a little change of pace. Travel... perhaps moving to warmer climes ...and definitely savoring more moments. We never set out to buy an RV...matter of fact, we had never even been in one and I definitely don't camp. But, now, with more time and a growing aversion to the insults of air travel, we bought a 40' motor coach. Our grandson, Ian, named it Gigantor. We call it Tor for short.

We're seeing things you just can't from the air and finding that we've so much to discover on this continent. In the past two years, we've taken three marvelous six-week trips. This time, we're "chasing the sun for as long as it fun". We left on October 5, 2009. We'll see how long we last!

We're searching for great places to stay, sights worth seeing, golf courses worth playing, great restaurants, shopping, farmer's markets. We're on the road in search of the high road.

Yarmouth

The High Road takes a slight detour to the low side. The one lonely picture says it all....it was mostly too depressing for words...but in trying to turn lemons into lemonade, we ended laughing alot at the absurdities of it all.

The drive to Yarmouth is on a good highway, but uninteresting. I had had a hard time finding a place to stay, so we had decided on a provincial park outside of town. We arrive, again in the pouring rain, and the net net is they can't really accommodate our size. The ranger let's us use the phone to call some other places..but no luck. We pour over our maps and books to see what we can find on the way to Halifax, our next destination..but again, no luck.

So, invoking the unwritten rule of the road, Rick declares we are going to park and sleep in the WalMart parking lot! I can't come up with any other options. We park Tor and drive into downtown Yarmouth for a very late lunch. We eat at Rudder's on the wharf, a pubby, friendly place. But the lobster cake tastes more like a potato pancake...a glass of wine helps.

With nothing to see or do in Yarmouth, we go back to Tor and read for a couple of hours while the rain steadily increases. What turns the day around is Mama Mia is playing at the theatre next door. It is entirely ridiculous and entirely delightful...you simply cannot help but laugh and smile.

A Boston Pizza is next to the theatre...we split a small Thai pizza..it's very good, but surprisingly expensive.

We quickly turn in...we may be in a WalMart, but our accommodations are the same....we sleep very well.

Yarmouth is dull and uninteresting..in my opinion, not worth the stop.
